A coffee house with their own master roaster will be able to be accountable for their own quality control instead of relying on a supplier. The in-house master coffee roaster will also be able to tell customers the roast level, the blend, and the origin of each type of coffee available in the coffee house.

A master coffee roaster also can roast the coffee as needed so the coffee house management doesn’t have to worry about ordering, stocking, and rotating stock. This not only saves time, but can potentially save the business from having to throw away coffee that didn’t sell in time. While there is no real certificate in coffee roasting that makes a person a master coffee roaster, the roaster’s guild is currently setting criteria so that those who pursue careers in this path can actually be certified if they meet certain criteria. Much of this criteria consists of the student’s ability in sourcing and sampling coffee. Students will also be require to determine the best roast profile for certain beans and be able to roast it. These students will be required to do this consistently before obtaining certification.

Obtaining this certification can be difficult when it becomes available, but it ensures students that they have learned a sufficient amount before they move on and pursue a career in roasting coffee. Careers in the coffee world can be rewarding and this is no different for those who roast coffee.
